Losing baby weight the right way while breastfeeding

Losing baby weight the right way while breastfeeding

After spending numerous months gaining baby weight preparing for your bundle of joy to come, us moms want to get back into our jeans right away. Unfortunately it takes time! Most women say it takes a good six months before there body starts to feel like their own again, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t jump start the process in helping our bodies shed off the unwanted pounds.

Did you know when breastfeeding you will naturally burn an extra 300 to 500 caleries per day. Your body is using those calories to produce milk for your baby. It is often recommended that women need to consume an extra 300-500 caleries per day to ensure that they are getting enough food intake, but that seems counterintuitive if your goal is to lose the baby weight as quickly as possible.

While it’s tempting to cut back on eating the acquired calories or restricting your calories further all to shed that baby weight, doing so could decrease your milk supply and or limit ability to breastfeed altogether.

SHARING THE SAME NEEDS:

When it comes to food, you and your baby share the same needs: nutrients. You can ensure that your baby is getting all that he or she needs from your milk supply by sticking to a well-balanced diet. This includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins (chicken, turkey, fish), and healthy fats (avocados, nuts, peanut butter)

By doing so you’ll lose the weight while keeping you and your baby healthy with the best food. Yes, the process takes time and it’s not an overnight fix. Doing it the right way will not only give your baby the best, but it will help you to lose weight the right way and keep it off! Those that starve their body always end up at square one when they start eating normal again.

Being physically active is also a great avenue to keep yourself active. They say that food is what sheds the pounds and working is the key to shaping your body. 80% food consumption and 20% activity! Take an hour a day. You don't have to go to the gym to get in shape, although its a great avenue. Sometimes you just have to become creative when having a little one(s) on your hands. Youtube has mommy and me workouts and amazon has tons of at home DVDs you can purchase. Or simply going to walks, hikes, or jogs outside. Just start with something small and let it blossom into a routine.

Whatever you do, don't give up too fast, stay focused on your goal, and STAY away from the scale! You clothes will give you the real results.
